Newly promoted Al-Ula (SBL) re-signed experienced 37-year-old American 188cm point guard Jonathan Gibson (college: NM State) for the upcoming season. He was a team leader there last season. In 10 SBL games, he recorded very impressive stats: 28.9ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.9apg, and 1.7spg. He helped them to end the regular season as the second-best team in the league. A great season indeed as he was voted to Asia-Basket.com Saudi Arabian SBL All-Imports Team, League Player of the Week (2 times), and Asia-Basket.com All-Saudi Arabian SBL First Team. The previous (2023-24) season, he played at Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut (LBL) in the Lebanese league. He also played 19 games in the Lebanese DLBL where he averaged a remarkable 21.2ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.2apg, and 1.5spg that year. He contributed to his team making it to the Lebanese League final. A very good season in his career as he was selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Le
Gibson has attempted to make it to the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. Gibson has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eight different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). He has played professionally in China (Ducks, Jiangsu Dragons, Eagles, Guangsha Lions and Anhui Wenyi), Iran (Petrochimi), Israel (Ashkelon), Italy (Brindisi), Lebanon, Turkey (Trabzonspor and Oyak Renault), NBA (Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics) and NBA G League (College Park SkyHawks). Gibson is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Al-Ula.
He graduated from New Mexico State University in 2010 and it'll be his 16th season in pro basketball.
